What functions, conditions of use or place in the political system determine the core of a regional language? What are national, regional and local identities and what role does the regional language play in the sense of a national identity? Is there a consensus among particular circles: researchers, speakers, and the perception of “Wilamowski language” by the legal system of the Republic of Poland? In thetitle of this article, many definitional areas appear which, without their determination, will not allow a proper presentation of the research results and answers to the aforementioned research hypotheses, namely: the regional language, national, regional and local identities and “Wilamowski language”. I used those research techniques that are adequate to the subject and the characteristics of the research. While verifying the research thesis, the following research methods, ones that are adequate for the science of politics and administration, were used: the comparative method, the descriptive method and, above all, an analysis of documents. The research methodology adopted with the use of theoretical and empirical material, taking into account doctrine and case law, made it possible to propose predictions and to draw conclusions to confirm or negate the research thesis concerning an elective support of the categorization of “Wilamowski language” as a regional language for the construction of the Wilamowski local identity
