In this article we discuss Michael Crichton’s distinctive use of educational and research skills in representing professional practices and manufacturing specialized knowledge to document his fiction with scientific plausibility. A connection between his literary production and professional life is made to then examine his idiosyncratic deployment of identifiable traits of academic or professional writing. We uphold that his legacy constitutes a plentiful and influential source for current and aspiring FASP writers, scholars, and language teachers. Among ideas for future consideration and research, we suggest that his trajectory as a fiction writer and the multidisciplinary nature of his works calls for an additional—not necessarily alternative—look at FASP authorship
