The non-human world in the hands of humans has been facing trouble ever since the massive development took place in the cultural lives of humans. Needless to say, this development has led to environmental issues all over the world. The centrality of these issues within literary creations has increased over time and has also paved the way for new theories in ecocriticism. One such contemporary ecocritical theory is Cultural Ecology in which nature and culture have been brought together to study their interaction and interdependence as a foundation for literary creativity. In this paper, two graphic narrations have been chosen for study – Orijit Sen’s River of Stories and Bhagwati Prasad’s The Water Cook Book. Both these works deal with environmental issues. Drawing theoretical insights from Hubert Zapf, this study explores how the multimodal narration of these graphic novels criticises the urban cultural dominance towards nature. By taking into account the concept of ‘literature as cultural ecology’, the current study examines the ecological force in these graphic narratives as it unfolds the hegemony of urban culture
