The structure of the Japanese family in Hawaii is becoming increasingly simple: the size is becoming smaller, and the composition is becoming more and more restricted to those members immediately related to the heads of families. The factors which appear to be responsible fo this trend are the increase in the mobility of the people, the rise in the standard of living, and the deliberate check on the number of children per family. The change in the family structure affects the attitudes of the people toward their family tradition and modifies to a considerable extent the nature of social interaction among the members
