Introduction: In recent years, there has been a great deal of research on bilingual families. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand the situation of Ukrainian families regarding the language skills of their and their sons and daughters. Methodology: Cross-sectional study with 50 Ukrainian families with children who are living in Madrid and they go to the Ukrainian school "Dyvosvit". We used an "ad hoc" questionnaire and a language proficiency questionnaire (Wiig et al., 2013). The average age of the children was 9.24 years with an SD (1.685), 38% boys and 62% girls. Results: Interesting sociodemographic data are obtained about the migratory situation of the families, as well as their sociolinguistic aspects. Regarding the linguistic development of childresn, it is similar to that of monolingual children with some differences at the phonological level, emission of mixed code, construction of sentences and in prosodic aspects, they present a high linguistic competence in both Spanish and Ukrainian in speaking, listening, reading and writing, although 46% presented difficulties in language development with the need for speech therapy intervention (42%). In addition, statistically significant differences have been obtained between some of the study variables and the language skills questionnaire (CCL). Conclusion: Although there are good language skills in Spanish and Ukrainian, we have found interesting sociolinguistic and linguistic elements that Ukrainian families face.
