This article aims to trace, articulate and interpretate the representations of hiv/aids in Brazilian pop rock music of the 1980s and 1990s, primary moment of the aids and hiv epidemic. Through a multidisciplinary perspective that leads us to the interpretation of the processes of meaning in the many layers of the composition and its performance, we analyze a selected repertoire of songs launched between 1983 and 1998. We intend to draw an interpretative perspective that frames hiv/aids in the Brazilian culture, facing its meanings in the first decades of the epidemic. As a result, we observe the recurrence of signs of hiv/aids in Brazilian music and the quality of its representations, besides remarking the possible synchronous relations between culture and epidemic
