This article discusses journalism of assertion and proposes a typology of statements. To understand the functioning of this journalism, we took as an empirical object 258 titles based on statements published by Folha de S. Paulo throughout October 2022. Through discourse analysis and the concept of detachment, we problematize the responsibility of media outlets in the dissemination of incomplete, ambiguous or false information and in the public validation of allegations that are of particular interest to declarants. We also demonstrate the characteristics and functioning of three types of statements highlighted in journalistic titles: evaluative, descriptive and prescriptive assertions
