The text presents theoretical elements for a possible articulation between class, race, gender and media in empirical studies of media reception and consumption: Nancy Fraser's critical theory and her discussion of capitalism as an institutionalized social order. We exemplify the proposal with the empirical study of the experience of quilombolas women from communities located in Rio Grande do Sul in order to understand the relationships between their engagement in the Black movement, class, race and gender contradictions and the uses of the media
