The article analyzes the soap opera Garota do Momento(Globo, 2024–2025). Set in 1958, the plot is centered on the trajectory of the character Beatriz, a young teacher who becomes the poster girl for a famous soap brand and the first black protagonist of a Brazilian soap opera. Based on the notion of counterfactual historical imagination, we seek to understand how the production projects an alternative past based on black protagonism and the confrontation of exclusionary standards on national television. The qualitative analysis focuses on specific scenes and narrative strategies that tension traditional representations and build new possibilities of visibility for black women in the media
