The article analyzes citizen simulation as a communication phenomenon, exploring the use of mobile devices in the dissemination of misinformation on digital platforms in contrast to traditional media coverage. Focusing on the confrontation between Rede Globo and certain groups affected by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul in 2024. Using the case study method, through collections, evaluations and analyzes (Bardin, 1977), of videos recorded on site and journalistic content about them. Based on concepts from authors such as Castells (2013) and Jenkins, Green and Ford (2015), among others, by investigating identity, cultural and media issues in climate tragedies, the text aims to contribute to the study of journalistic practices considering the various uses of digital technologies by popular people
