In this article, the concept and principles of the ethnic problem, the existing theoretical views and conceptual approaches to solving the ethnic problems, the historical-legal basis and political mechanisms of solving the ethnic problems are studied and analytically researched. It also reveals issues of solving ethnic problems in mono-ethnic, multi-ethnic, non-ethnic (not based on any ethnic groups) states or in homogeneous and heterogeneous societies
