This article discusses archival activities as an institution of social management. In addition, the role and importance of archives, their organizational, legal and social foundations in the management of society are highlighted. The author tried to reveal the role of archives in the development of the state. The essence and functioning of archives in society is determined. The article examines the pre-institutional period, the transitional period and the institutional period of archives in social management. The article also discusses the history of the emergence of archives in Central Asia and the storage of documents in these archives
