Despite its importance, the Basmachi movement in Soviet history remains underexamined. The struggle of the Bolsheviks with Basmachi detachments was an integral stage of the Russian Civil War in Soviet Central Asia. The Basmachi movement also took place in various regions of the territory of southern Kyrgyzstan. Forced collectivization, political, economic restrictions on the wealthy, and other reasons caused the revival of the movement towards the end of the 1920s. Consequently, the movement persisted as a formidable political threat to the Soviet regime’s consolidation in Central Asia until the early 1930s. This article investigates the reasons for the strengthening of the movement in the region, the activities of the basmachi, the social structure of the revolt participants, and some Soviet anti-resistance measures at the end of the 1920s and at the beginning of the 1930s. The examination of the Basmachi movement during this period is substantiated through an analysis of local Soviet archival documents. Another aim of the article is provide researchers with original primary source information on this important topic
