In testing his Interest-Group theory, Centers develops six questions designed to measure conservatism-radicalism. The present study, using independent data, contrasts Centers' item-analysis-scale approach with the Guttman scaling technique. This serves as a rigorous test of unidimensionality of the C-R Battery. The Guttman scale analysis shows that the battery contains more than one attitude, from which one infers that Centers' test of the Interest-Group theory would be improved by modifying the battery. A more definitive conclusion awaits Centers' rescaling of his own data by the Guttman technique
