The article reconstructs the history of the publication of the first issue of the collection of scientific articles “Siberia and the Decembrists,” published in 1978. The collection was formed on the basis of reports by participants of the All-Union Scientific Conference “Decembrists and Russian Culture,” held in Irkutsk in September 1975, and was named so by analogy with the publication published in Irkutsk under the editorship of B. G. Kubalov and F. A. Kudryavtsev in 1925 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the uprising of the “first noble revolutionaries,” which emphasized the continuity of the study of this topic by different generations of Siberian researchers. The article reveals the multifaceted activities of S. F. Koval, who not only initiated the creation of the collection, but was its direct compiler and coordinator of the editorial board. The first and subsequent five issues of the collection, published in 1978–2009, made a significant contribution to the development of Russian Decembrist studies
