This article examines the journalistic and publishing activities of Tamai Kisaku (1866–1906), a Japanese journalist, lawyer, and traveler, in Germany. He is renowned not only for publishing the first German-language Japanese magazine in Germany (1898–1911) “Ost Asien”, but also for the publication of his diary, “Karawanen-Reise in Sibirien”, which he kept during his journey through Siberia with a tea caravan in 1893
