When working in teams, the work of each team member is difficult to assess fairly because it is not often distinguishable in the final deliverable, and because when teamwork is applied, the final outcome isn’t just a simple summatioin of individual contributions. Steps towards more objective/fair student performance evaluation could be based on peer ranking of everyone’s work, and at the same time tracking contributions through digital traces in a digital collaborative environment. The objectives of this study were to cross-examine these methods and propose a simple and fair composite measure of individuals’ contributions to the team outcomes. Therefore, in this study, a Peer Contribution Score (PCS) is proposed, which is based on the ranking of each team member by his/her peers and is defined in a way that is comparable among teams of different sizes and number of equivalent team tasks. PCS was combined with the person’s overall digital presence in the Digital Collaborative Environment used for completing the team tasks. The results confirmed that PCS and Digital Presence were positively correlated as expected. The combination of PCS and Digital Presence for each person results in a categorization of the team members. This categorization can be used as an extra tool for the teacher, allowing for better insight into the students’ contributions to the team’s work, but not as a sole source of grades or an exclusive way to evaluate students
