Child labor in Brazil has increased since 2019.According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the southern and southeastern states, the wealthiest regions in the country, lead in the exploitation of children and adolescents. The Public Ministry of Labor (MPT), in an intersectoral action with the Education sector, aimed at addressing complex social problems, has developed a project with municipalities through the Municipal Departments of Education, called "MPT na Escola" (MPT in School). The municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes has been actively participating in this initiative since 2021, with actions to raise awareness and sensitize the school community and society, promoting debates in public elementary schools. The aim of this abstract is to report the actions taken by the Municipal Department of Education of Campos dos Goytacazes within this context. The project takes place annually, with increasing participation from public schools each year, addressing topics related to the rights of children and adolescents in a welcoming manner, with the aim of transforming social realities. It focuses particularly on the eradication of child labor and the protection of adolescent workers, involving students mainly from the 4th to the 9th grade, impacting more than 4,000 students and 200 teachers in the municipal school system of Campos dos Goytacazes in 2024 alone. The project employs active methodologies designed to develop students' and teachers' competencies and skills, such as argumentation, communication, digital culture, empathy and cooperation, scientific, critical, and creative thinking, cultural repertoire, responsibility and citizenship, work and life projects, through the use of various tools developed by the Public Ministry, including posters, comic books, films, and other printed and digital materials, distributed by the MPT to the Municipal Departments of Education. The Municipal Department of Education of Campos dos Goytacazes selects the amount of material according to the number of students in each participating school and conducts a pedagogical visit, explaining all possible methodologies for developing activities according to the specific profile of each school unit. The variety of methods and tools used, as well as the approaches, complement each other and contribute to achieving the project's objectives. As a result, it is observed that the diversity of methodologies used, with comprehensive views on the topic, allows for applicability according to the community's situation. After the semester in which the project takes place, students participate in a national contest in the categories of drawing, short story, poetry, and original music, centered around the developed theme. These productions serve as a means to listen to students, aiming to identify potential situations of illegal work.It is expected that there will be a paradigm shift and the overcoming of the challenges and limitations that have persisted to this day, such as (i) Limitations of the supervisory bodies in the areas with the highest incidence of child labor: family farming, domestic activities, and informal urban activities; (ii) Cultural acceptance of child labor by society; (iii) The detrimental effects of child labor on education: school dropout and low academic performance. This approach to tackling child labor in society contributes to the development of public policies aimed at solving this complex and relevant social issue
