It is generally assumed that the larger colleges and universities are more adequately prepared to train students in empirical research methods and techniques. When size of institutions is determined by the average number of Ph.D.'s granted per year, empirical data support the hypothesis that greater productivity will be found among sociologists receiving their degrees from the larger schools. The findings indicate that publication by sociologists from Catholic institutions is virtually non-existen in the major sociological journals. Evidence that the more productive sociologists are the products of midwestern colleges and universities is found
