Éléments pour une histoire souterraine des plantes cultivées en Amazonie du nord-ouest

L ́apparent fouillis des abattis amérindiens du Rio Negro est une matérialisation de spatialités, de temporalités et de liens sociaux qui opèrent à diverses échelles. La diversité biologique qui y est présente a pour soubassements des récits mythiques, une histoire régionale sur le temps long, des trajectoires de vie, des choix, des nécessités, et des savoirs experts. Son élément saillant est le manioc amer, Manihot esculenta Crantz, avec de nombreuses variétés, et la région du Rio Negro est connue pour être un foyer de diversification variétale. Néanmoins ces maniocs sont accompagnés de nombreuses autres espèces qui fournissent de l’amidon consommé sous diverses formes. Ces plantes au rôle tant alimentaire que social se structurent en plusieurs ensembles dont l'un est constitué de plantes compagnes du manioc. Ces différents ensembles constituent-ils une clé de lecture de l’histoire de l’agriculture régionale qui aurait opéré par accumulation de diversité agrobiologique ? C’est à partir d’une lecture fondée sur les récits mythiques, les données de l’archéobotanique, et d’une approche ethnographique des plantes à réserves amylacées souterraines que nous tentons de répondre à ces questions
