This paper introduces the sociological calendar as a device for condensing and analyzing data about social processes. Its construction leads the investigator to discover the socially defined units of time in the important dimensions of the social process being studied and facilitates comparative analyses through time and across dimensions. Illustrations from medical school, internship, and psychiatric residence are presented. They are used for a second purpose as well: to examine the Becker "school" of medical socialization
