INTRODUCTION: Markers such as race, gender and sexuality, intersected, compose an outlook of how violence operates. OBJECTIVE: Analyze the motivations behind interpersonal violence suffered by Black and LGBT populations between 2014 and 2017 and demonstrate the importance of intersectionality in the structure and completion of the Interpersonal and Self-Inflicted Violence Notification Form of the SINAN. METHOD: The motivations of violence against black and LGBT populations were analyzed to demonstrate the importance of an intersectional approach to the structure and filling of the form. RESULTS: It is necessary to reevaluate this structure, especially regarding motivation, race/color, sexual orientation, gender identity, and inconclusive options. CONCLUSION: Complete data enables reliable indicators, and the intersectional view seeks to assist the search for social equity
