This article analyzes the electoral performance of conservatives and liberals elected to the position of provincial deputy of Paraná between the years 1882 and 1889. Firstly, in the 1880s liberals won the majority of seats in the Legislative Assembly. The electoral polarization in the province was characterized by slight changes regarding the scope of the base of supporters of the Conservative and Liberal parties. Secondly, the changes in electoral rules and in the composition of Ministerial Cabinets did not decisively influence the performance of these parties in the elections occurred in Paraná. Thirdly, in this province, the solidity of the parties' support base is evidenced by the fact that internal dissent within a party did not prevent it from maintaining its dominance in former electoral strongholds. This article fits into a current of analysis focused on the study of the political activity of regional elites and the functioning of legislative institutions during the monarchical regime. It thus engages with the works of authors such as Maria de Fátima Silva Gouvêa and Miriam Dolhnikoff. The execution of this study is carried out through information extracted from periodicals that circulated locally, especially the newspaper Dezenove de Dezembro, which published the results of all the elections for the Paraná Assembly that occurred in the 1880s
