The so-called Gregorian Reform serves as a paradigmatic thematic reference in historiography. Often described as the foundational matrix of the historical meanings assumed by the Catholic Church since the year 1000, the "Gregorian Reform" continues to carry a modernizing and superlative conceptual status—whether understood as the crisis that initiated a vast process of political secularization or as the revolution that shaped Western collective identities and social relations. This article proposes a reinterpretation of the phenomenon based on the following working hypothesis: that the actors and ideologues of the papacy, as established in the mid-eleventh century, operated according to a logic of flexible decision-making and ongoing negotiation of reformist parameters throughout ecclesiastical action. These dimensions become more apparent when the "Reform" is examined in light of arguments developed specifically by and for the History of Corruption—such as John T. Noonan Jr.’s thesis on the role of simony in the social perception of corruption. Focusing on key narrative sources concerning papal governance between 1050 and 1100 and employing a Discourse Analysis approach grounded in the theoretical premises of Ernesto Laclau, this article introduces the concept of a "time of corruption" as a central axis for reinterpreting the Gregorian Reform
