The Intersection of Faith and Disability
Theological Perspectives from Catholic, Orthodox, and Reformed Representatives

This study explored how representatives from three major Christian traditions (Orthodox, Catholic, and Reformed) perceive and interpret disability, focusing on the intersection of faith and disability through theological perspectives. Using a qualitative approach, the research involved six in-depth interviews with Romanian representatives from these Christian denominations. We examined how disability is understood in each tradition, highlighting shared values and expressed differences. Findings suggested that all three traditions emphasize community support, compassion, and the spiritual significance of disability, aligning with the religious model of disability, which views disability as a moral and spiritual opportunity for growth. While the Orthodox Church views disability as both a physical and spiritual trial, the Catholic perspective frames it as a challenge to be accepted through faith, and the Reformed tradition emphasizes moral responsibility and resilience. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how faith communities integrate individuals with disabilities and the role of religion in shaping societal attitudes toward disability. Future research could expand the scope to include more diverse perspectives and practical applications of the religious model in inclusive education and social contexts
