This article refers to research carried out at PROFARTES-UFU through a pedagogical practice developed with students with intellectual disabilities - DI, inserted in the common teaching class, attending the Specialized Educational Service ( AEE in Portuguese), in a school in Uberlândia MG. The qualitative assessment methodology has its method the phenomenology and the bibliographic exploratory study. The technical procedure used was the research-action.The practical experiment involved students with intellectual disabilities in situations related to the body as main theme of the services.. Ten activities were developed addressing body image through self-portrait painting. The process involved cognitive, communicational, affective and social development, which, through an artistic work, established bonds of self-appropriation, identity and creative inclusion
