Purpose: This systematic review aims to educate society about the emerging relationship between gut microbiota and obesity, highlighting the therapeutic potential of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) as a novel treatment approach. Methodology: We conducted a comprehensive review of literature from databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus, focusing on recent studies that explore the role of gut microbiota in energy metabolism and the implications of microbiota-targeted therapies like FMT. Study selection adhered to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines to ensure a rigorous analysis. Main Findings: Current research indicates that alterations in gut microbial composition can lead to increased energy harvest, insulin resistance, and low-grade systemic inflammation, all of which contribute to obesity. FMT has emerged as a promising adjunctive therapy, with potential benefits in improving insulin sensitivity and reshaping gut microbiota. However, the need for further well-designed clinical trials is essential to establish its long-term efficacy and safety. Implications: The findings from this review serve as a foundation for developing personalized obesity therapies that incorporate microbial interventions, including FMT and phage therapy. By spreading awareness of these innovative approaches, we aim to empower individuals and healthcare professionals to consider gut health as a crucial factor in obesity management. Novelty: This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of the mechanisms through which gut microbiota influence obesity, emphasizing the importance of education in fostering awareness of these therapeutic strategies. By enhancing understanding of gut health, we can contribute to more effective obesity treatment initiatives and promote healthier lifestyles within society
