A great influence on the historical consciousness of the Swiss was exerted by the "Great Burgundian Chronicle" by Diebold Schilling the Elder (1483), which tells about a military clash between the Swiss cantons and their allies on one side, and the Duke of Burgundy on the other. This work was used by the following Bernese chronicler V. Anselm when writing his own chronicle (1546). The purpose of the article is to identify the authors' position in the interpretation of causes, events and participants of the Burgundian Wars (1474-1477) in the Bernese chronicles of D. Schilling and V. Anselm. Contextual analysis and cognitive semantic analysis are used to achieve this goal. Schilling considers the love of power of the Burgundian Duke Charles the Bold, who infringed on the interests of Bern, to be the cause of the conflict. Anselm's puppeteer is Louis XI, who manipulated the Swiss. Charles the Bold is described by chroniclers as an arrogant and tyrannical ruler. Bern's expansionist aspirations are not shown by both chroniclers. The difference in the interpretation of events and their participants is due to both the biography of the authors and their intention - legitimization by Schilling and information by Anselm
