The author of the article explores the issue of the introduction of a course of Islamic faith for Tatar Muslim students in the Yelabuga Girls' Gymnasium of the Vyatka province of the Kazan Educational District in 1915. The documents of the funds of the trustee of the Kazan Educational District of the State Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Office of the Director of Public Schools of the Vyatka province of the Central State Archive of the Kirov Region are the basis of the study. The author draws conclusions about the impact on the development of women's secondary education among Tatars of the spread of educational ideas of Jadidism, changes in the attitude of part of Tatar society to the role of women, the growing number of primary schools and the demand for teaching staff, the desire of Muslim women themselves to study and engage in teaching. Muslims had a need for religious education for girls and could show more interest in the gymnasium and the Russian school as a whole thanks to the course of the Islamic faith. The parents of the students and the mullah of the Yelabuga Cathedral Mosque, A. Khuzyakhanov, took the initiative. The leaders of the Yelabuga Girls' Gymnasium supported them, as they were well aware of the specifics of teaching Muslim Tatars. The trustee of the Kazan Educational District knew the experience of teaching the Islamic faith in educational institutions of the subordinate territory and positively resolved the issue
