The article is devoted to the study of the image of the righteous hero in Ossetian prose of the 2nd half of the 20th century. For the first time, the category of righteousness is revealed on the material of the works of individual writers. It is established that the righteous hero in Ossetian literature, although he believes in the existence of a higher spiritual power, is deprived of the appearance of holiness, is close to the existential, worldly image, the main goal of which is to serve the people, self-sacrifice. Ossetian literature demonstrates images of righteous heroes from worldly life. These are adherents of traditional national values, possessing a set of moral qualities. Modernity itself demanded the appearance of such heroes in literature. Like Russian writers of the second half of the 20th century, Ossetian writers turned to a man of the people, endowed with high spirituality and morality. Fortitude in the face of death is one of the righteous traits of the heroes of village writers. In village prose N.G. Jusoity actualizes the issues of life and death. For the first time in Ossetian literature of the 2nd half of the 20th century, a woman performs the function of protecting the farn (grace) of a village, people, family. The novel by V.G. Maliyev shows the image of Surme - the guardian of the "village world", in which similar features are guessed with some of the heroines of V. Rasputin (Anna, "The Last Term", Daria, "Farewell to Matyora"), A. Solzhenitsyn (Matryona, "Matryona's Place")
