The aim of this text is to analyze a symbolic dimension of the presence of the neoclassical in the architectural works in Rio de Janeiro in the composition of the new Brazilian nation.A unique historical example of a colonial city becoming the capital of its empire, the attention to neoclassical begins with the arrival of the Portuguese royal family to its colonial rule in America.In a land of slavery, mestizo and tropical, becoming a new country require reworking its history and its projection in the group of nations.It discusses the importance of the link with Greco-Roman antiquity for the composition of a new land called Brazil
