The Women’s League was an organisation that functioned from 1945 to 1989 under the names: Socio-Civic League of Women, League of Women and League of Polish Women. Through activity guidelines, statutes and programmes, the League’s leaders had the task of promoting among Polish women a belief in the superior role of the League of Women as an organisation representing the interests of all women, irrespective of their origin, material or social status. The article presents the various phases of the organisation’s activities and its areas of operation, including activities for the professional activation of women (e.g. through training and professional further training courses), the definition of political activities for women, the provision of legal aid and child-rearing assistance
