The SCOPUS database was searched for papers published between 1997 and 2021. Using clustering techniques and loglikelihood ratios (LLR) algorithm in Cite space visualization tool, researchers were able to track the progress of urban sprawl GIS-based studies. In the period from 1997 to 2014, researchers were still investigating the subject. Throughout 2014 and the present, there has been an increase in research. Besides geographical related keywords, technical keywords have been the most frequently used in this field since 2000, according to a review of the literature. It was common to conduct research via some key words such as "Satellite"and "Spatiotemporal analysis" With a disparate fields when clustering documents
