The article briefly presents the history of the Gandantegchenlin complex in the city of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The main task is to describe the artistic and expressive features and demonstrate the use of the proportioning system of the Megjid Janraisig temple as the dominant of the composition of the complex. An interdisciplinary method is proposed that combines elements of historical art history, iconological and graphic analysis. The study substantiates the use of the method of dynamic rectangles known in architecture, which reveals the modular grid of the temple and determines that its main compositional characteristics are formed and coordinated in a single modular system. The found number of elements makes it possible to explain the harmony and high expressiveness of the temple due to the system of proportioning. The diagrams graphically show that the same proportional and modular relationships were applied in the central monumental sculpture of Megjid Janraisig, which can be considered one of the essential prerequisites for the integrity and harmony of the building and the central sacred image. The results obtained open the way to an in-depth architectural and semantic interpretation of the temple
