М. The article discusses the concept of chutai, which refers to inner enlightenment and is represented in Buddhist art by the image of the centre of the lotus with eight petals. The symbolism and iconography of chutai are examined in relation to the structure of the Garbhadhatu mandala and the arrangement of Buddhist deities. The text provides examples and illustrations from the Tripitaka, a set of early Buddhist sacred texts created in the 5th–3rd centuries B.C., as well as 20th-century works on Buddhist art. The article by Lokesh Chandra from the Dictionary of Buddhist Iconography has been translated by S.M. Belokurova
