Introduction: This qualitative research aimed to analyze internet news on Portal G1 published between March and April 2021 about Monique Medeiros, a mother accused of being an accomplice in the murder of her son, Henry Borel. Objective: The objective was to analyze how gender performances are found in the construction of journalistic and social discourse from the theoretical perspective of gender studies. Method: 146 internet news items were collected, 74 of which were used after applying exclusion criteria. Subsequently, Bardin's Content Analysis was applied, which resulted in the creation of 3 categories. Results: The identified categories were: the conniving, cold and negligent mother; the malicious, vain and greedy mother; and the mother in jail. Conclusion: Based on these categories, it was possible to analyze how the media portrays women who are silent about aggression towards their children and who end up having their identity questioned as a woman and mother, going through processes of psychiatrization and judicialization differently from those socially attributed to men
