Г. И. П. The article presents a panorama of phenomena that demonstrate the Byzantine vector in Russian self-awareness in the 1870s.The author addresses the sphere of cultural philosophy, Byzantology, Russian historical science, and the state order for the “Byzantine style” in architecture, which marked the Orthodox- civilizational essence of Russia. The article emphasizes the scientific and ideological breakthrough of the world level, realized in the fundamental concepts ofN. Ya. Danilevsky, K. N. Leontiev, V. I. Lamansky, in the works of historians of Byzantium and Byzantine art V. G. Vasilievsky, F. I. Uspensky, N. P. Kondakov
