Introduction. The article examines the toponymic palimpsest of the Samara text in terms of representation of signs of territorial identity in it. Based on the semiotic analysis of Samara urbanonymy, the codes of territorial identity implemented in modern toponyms are revealed, which are relevant for the main time periods of the city’s history from the moment of its foundation to the present. The first article, based on the study of modern urbanonymic landscape of Samara, identifies the main verbal signs of the symbolic capital of the city, forming the conceptual meanings of territorial identity in the pre-revolutionary period: “fortress city” and “grain capital”. Results. The second article examines the toponymic representations of Samara identity, reflecting the conceptual meanings of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods: “industrial and industrial center”, “reserve capital”, “aviation and space center”, “resort city”. Conclusion. Thus, a semiotic study of modern urbanonymic landscape of Samara is carried out as an integral structure of verbal and visual signs of symbolic capital, reflecting a palimpsest of conceptual meanings of territorial identity throughout the history of the city
