Bioarchaeology is understood as an integrative and multidisciplinary scientific discipline based on the study of human skeletal assemblages from archaeological sites. It addresses diverse themes, such as social and funerary organization, activity patterns and the division of labor by gender, paleodemography, population movement, genetic relationships, and the diet and disease of past human populations (Buikstra, 1977). To address these issues, it is essential to integrate the analysis of osteological assemblages with other lines of archaeological and anthropological evidence. In this context, representations in rock art, ceramics, and other archaeological evidence, as well as forensic studies of human remains, can provide useful methodological and analytical criteria for bioarchaeological interpretation. With this perspective, we invite research teams from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Museum of the National University of La Plata (UNLP) to participate in this workshop, part of the series of workshops organized by the Archaeology Division of the La Plata Museum. The meeting had a dual objective. On the one hand, to share and discuss the archaeological projects and issues we address through the analysis of pre-Hispanic human skeletal remains. We also invited contributions on how other lines of archaeological or anthropological evidence can contribute to the discussion of bioarchaeological studies on topics such as gender, individual and/or collective embodiment, and divisions of labor, among others. We would like to highlight that the work presented at the workshop by different research teams reflects a wide range of topics of interest developed in Northwest and Northeast Argentina, the Pampas, and Patagonia. They also showcase diverse methodological approaches, from bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology to curatorial work. Furthermore, each presentation clearly indicates the composition of the teams, including researchers, postgraduate fellows, and undergraduate students, as well as their collaboration with specialists from our workplace and other academic institutions.
