Accessibility of Housing for Young People in the Republic of Kalmykia

The paper considers the issues of providing the youth of the Republic of Kalmykia with housing. The analysis of the current state of the housing stock in the Republic of Kalmykia has been carried out, factors affecting the availability of housing for young people have been identified, and state programs to support the young population in purchasing housing have been reviewed. The purpose of the article is to identify the existing problems and difficulties in the purchase of housing by young people. Materials and methods. When writing the article, the following materials were used: statistical data from the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of the Russian Federation, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). The main research method is a sociological survey. Young people aged 18-35 were interviewed in 13 districts of the Republic of Kalmykia and the city of Elista. Results. More than half of the respondents have their own housing, but a significant number of young people rent housing and live with relatives. A small percentage of the respondents live in office housing or dormitories. According to the respondents, the main reasons for the lack of their own housing are high real estate prices and lack of savings for a down payment. Most of the young people surveyed plan to purchase housing through a mortgage. Thus, housing provision among the young population of the Republic of Kalmykia is an urgent and important problem that requires an integrated approach and active actions on the part of government agencies, local authorities and society itself. Significant results in improving housing conditions and creating comfortable environment for young people in the region can be achieved only through joint efforts
