The article analyzes the problems of medical care in rural areas of the Republic of Kalmykia. The purpose of the article is to study key aspects of the quality of medical care in rural areas, including accessibility, waiting conditions, the attitude of medical staff and the level of patient satisfaction. Materials and methods. To assess the number of medical workers, statistical data provided by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kalmykia at the request of the Kalmyk Scientific Center of the RAS were analyzed. To study the quality of medical care in rural areas, a sociological survey of rural residents in 13 districts of the Republic of Kalmykia was conducted. A total of 580 respondents were interviewed in rural areas in April, May, and July 2024. The interviews with the heads of rural municipalities were also conducted (N=20). Results. The study showed that the problem of the access to qualified medical care is one of the factors of the regional asymmetry, since in urban areas the problem of the access to medical care is not so acute. The analysis of the statistical information showed the existing asymmetry in the distribution of the doctors by age groups in all regions of the republic. The quality of medical care in rural areas remains one of the main challenges for the Russian healthcare system. The problems related to the availability of the medical facilities, the lack of qualified personnel and the state of the infrastructure continue to be relevant and require immediate solutions. Solving these problems is a factor in reducing inequalities in the health of the citizens living in different types of settlements
