The Fight against Alcoholism in Astrakhan Oblast at the Turn of the 1970s-1980s According to Written Sources from the State Archive of Astrakhan Oblast

The study of the history of health care in the Astrakhan region in the post-war period is impossible without archival documents; especially interesting are official sources in the form of certificates, reports, statistical data, and protocols. The purpose of the study is to introduce new sources covering the fight against alcoholism in one of the regions of the RSFSR, as well as the materials of the Commission on the fight against drunkenness and alcoholism, formed under the Executive Committee of the Regional Council of People’s Deputies of the Astrakhan Oblast. Results. The article covers for the first time the work of the Commission to Combat Alcoholism under the Executive Committee of the Regional Council of People’s Deputies of the Astrakhan region, the preventive measures taken to prevent alcoholism, and statistical data on this issue. A reference, which had the ‘Secret’ classification, is published, which contains a report on the implementation by the city of Astrakhan of the normative-legal documents issued to strengthen the fight against drunkenness and alcoholism in the country, as well as measures implemented in the framework of intensification of the fight against drunkenness. Conclusions. The data obtained during the study of archival documents will help to study that historical period more deeply, to understand the political and economic processes that took place, the state of the sphere of human health protection in the Astrakhan region
