This review article is entirely devoted to analyzing and comprehending the key points and ideas raised in the framework of the new collective monograph “The Life World of Workers: Sustainability versus Precarity”, published by the well-known publishing house “The Whole World” in our country, edited by Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Zh. T. Toshchenko. This collective monograph presents the positive and negative aspects inherent in the modern nature of work. The reader of this academic work will be able to clearly trace the way Russian scientific thought has evolved in the study of the “precariat” class, what progress has been made in this direction and what remains to be done. An extensive empirical database of modern primary and secondary representative data obtained during the All-Russian sociological surveys of the working-age population conducted by organizations such as the National Research University of Economics (2017, N=75), the Institute of Sociology of the Federal Research Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2021, N=4 241), the Levada Center (2022, N=1 618), the Russian State University of Economics (2012, N=1 201; 2013, N=1 200; 2014, N=1 750; 2015, N=1 000; 2016, N=1 350; 2018, N=1 200; 2019, N=900; 2020, N=900; 2021, N=800; 2022, N=1 200), FOMBus (2012, N=1 500; 2020, N=1 500; 2021, N=1 000; 2023, N=1 500), All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (2013, N=1 600; 2018, N=1 600; 2020, N=1 600; 2021, N=1 600), etc., allows us to draw a number of important conclusions. In fact, the concept of the “life world” provides an opportunity to comprehensively study and describe all aspects of human life in their unity. If we take work as a fundamental component of the “life world” as a starting point, then studying it makes it possible to trace its evolution in all its complexity and ambiguity. This includes both adaptation to the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution and the sixth technological order, as well as the influence of the subjective aspect — the importance of awareness and actions of employees and managers. We emphasize that the analysis of labor activity has revealed untapped opportunities for solving significant issues, such as improving labor efficiency and new models of involving people in work (including self-employment, gig economy and sharing economy). Numerous studies have shown that Russian citizens strive to achieve both long-term and short-term goals
