This article begins from a presupposition that capitalist development induces war, whereas community building nurtures peace. This assumption is based on the ideas of two PeaceWomen: Joan Hinton and Mahasweta Devi. Developing a Marxist and feminist perspective, I argue that the core value of capitalist development is individualism and competition, whereas community building requires collectivity and cooperation. And I propose rural women’s collectives as entailing a process of social redistribution, implying that one lives and shares with the other. The effort of peacemaking is embedded in rituals of mutuality at the ground level. In this article, rural women are represented as the subjects of this kind of social and cultural transformation. I employ the figure of rural women’s collectivity to address the current overwhelming ideologies of urbanity, patriarchy, and individualism
