In this brief introductory essay to the Signs Comparative Perspectives Symposium on Gloria Anzaldúa, I map the terrain of Anzaldúan studies in an international space. Since her passing in 2004, Gloria Anzaldúa’s work has become more widely known in academic circles worldwide, perhaps because our worldwide situation has changed and scholars find in her work a tool for analysis of their situation. As the various writers included in the symposium attest, her work resonates with the conditions of women struggling for social justice well beyond the United States
