Taking the University Reform of Córdoba in 1918 as a reference, this article aims to present the experience of the Fifth Group of the Extension Course: “Social Movements and Contemporary Crises in the Light of the Classics of Historical Materialism,” which took place between the second semester of 2017 and the first of 2018 at the Institute of Economics of Unicamp. The course aimed at deepening theoretical-methodological knowledge in the classical works of historical materialism and the main interpreters of Brazil, as well as providing a differentiated approach to the problems of contemporary capitalism, especially the Brazilian reality. Its target audience consisted of people active in social movements: trade unions, left-wing parties, landless and homeless movements, feminists, members of the black movement, university professors, public school teachers, popular educators, environmentalists, popular leaders, LGBTQIA+ activists, etc
