The interest in finding ways to understand and analyze relationships in space has long engaged specialists from diverse disciplines and geographical contexts, generating extensive debates. This contribution proposes linking theory and methodology to analyze territorial processes, distancing itself from traditional views that consider space merely as a container of objects rather than a fundamental element in their production. Based on a review of critical perspectives on the subject, the proposal assumes that there is a specific methodology for approaching spatial relations, although different theories develop it with distinct orientations and assumptions. Integrating nature and territory as non-separate elements, and moving from traditional homogeneity toward its articulation with the differences that compose scalar spaces redefining processes, are key elements that ultimately allow for the consideration of different types of relationships. Awareness of the diverse ways in which authors and disciplines engage in these debates is a fundamental part of a broader endeavor that forms part of our work as territorialists and critical thinkers
