This article examines the impact of modernization processes on the material culture of the Karachay people, which have unfolded in Russia in recent times. Using fieldwork, this study examines the preservation of traditional elements and the introduction of innovations in the housing, clothing, and food of the Karachay people. The study utilized a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach and specialized methods (observation and interviews). According to observations, Karachay dwelling types have undergone the greatest transformation. By the 20th century, single-chamber log houses with gable roofs were already rare and were used as auxiliary utility rooms. Among the Karachay, home interiors are also undergoing changes, aligning with urban standards. Transformations also affect traditional dress: its ethnically defining function has been diminished; traditional dress is used primarily in wedding ceremonies, and elements of it may also be present in modern clothing. Despite all this, the Karachay people maintain a traditional diet. In general, the socio-cultural processes occurring in the 20th−21st centuries have directly or indirectly affected the elements of material culture, completely or partially changing them
