Although the movement of people—both regionally and globally—is not a new phenomenon, in recent decades we have witnessed new migration patterns that include an incredible increase in the volume and diversity of destinations, as well as controversial policy debates around the topic. These new movements and debates have challenged anthropology's past concern with a social and cultural order that migration would only disturb and eventually break, which kept migration‐related issues away from anthropological analysis until the second half of the twentieth century. Instead, nowadays, the contribution of migration to processes of local and global social change are part of anthropologists' research interests, to which ethnographic methods, sometimes creatively reworked, can offer valuable insights
