The anthropology of gangs challenges the early twentieth‐century Chicago school of human ecology to detail the ever‐expanding social relations of gangs around the world. Migrant labor circuits, new regimes of deportation, and uneven efforts at democratization are some of the processes that prompt many anthropologists to understand gangs as transnational assemblages
